Most of the statutes that exist in our penal code are colonial laws. The institutions of the state – whether we are talking about parliament which has today been captured by the presidency, or the judiciary, or the police – need a complete overhaul.

What needs to happen at the minimum is an abolition of this police force and the creation of a new one in its place – one guided by tenets of human rights and human dignity. You simply cannot reform a colonial system.” Sungu Oyoo, Kenyan presidential aspirant.
