Why Sungu Oyoo?

My name is Sungu Oyoo. Most Kenyans call me Comrade President. I am a writer, human rights advocate and a Pan-Africanist. More importantly, I am a member of Kongamano la Mapinduzi, a political movement in Kenya, where I currently serve as the National Spokesperson. I have additionally been part of various campaigns, movements and organized groups working toward attainment of socio-political, economic, and environmental rights in Kenya and across the African continent over the past decade.

I am running for President of the Republic of Kenya because I dream of a better Kenya. A Kenya where all are treated equally and entitled to justice, freedom and dignity. A Kenya where education and healthcare are accessible to all. A Kenya where youth are not killed for simply demanding for accountable leadership like what happenned in June 2024 during the Gen-Z protests – but are instead accorded opportunities. I am running for President because I desire a better Kenya , a Kenya where all those who are unseen and unheard by unjust power are actually treated as human beings.

What we have witnessed in Kenya over the past year or so is a generation coming of age. A generation openly declaring that they will not live in poverty and humiliation. A generation saying it will not be cowed or intimidated into silence again. It is a rupture on the Kenyan political landscape, and a reverberation on the African political landscape. A rupture that might just eventually push aside anything and anyone who stands between the masses and their dignity.

I am proud to be part of this new generation of Africans who desire and want an Africa liberated from the clutches of both internal oppression and external dominance.

The problems that bedevil Kenya at this juncture are political, and they need political solutions. Our generation finds itself at a historical moment where Kenyan youth will have to offer themselves for elective positions – from MCA to President – in the 2027 elections. I, Sungu Oyoo, will contest for the Presidency in that election under the banner of the Kenya Left Alliance through Ukweli Party.

Comrades, let’s join hands in this loud and defiant march into history as we create new worlds – worlds of joy, love, laughter, justice and dignity.
